Despite 300 days of uninterrupted power, a recent wave of technical failures led to the sudden implementation of Stage 6 load shedding. The Minister, however, reassured the public that “by the end of the week, there will not be [any] load shedding.”

Eskom CEO Dan Marokane provided further insights, explaining that the loss of multiple units at Majuba and Camden power stations was the primary cause of the intensified load shedding. “We have understood the exact nature of how the event came about, and we are able to isolate it overnight and start addressing it,” he said. He reported that six out of ten lost units had already been restored, with more expected to come online soon. Marokane also highlighted Eskom’s ongoing efforts to prevent future occurrences and improve system resilience.
